Getting around Dominica is quite an adventure. It is always best to drive slowly, so one can capture the scenery; the fruits and the trees, the rivers, the flowers, the birds and the wildlife.
We also recommend that you make a quick stop at one of the roadside craft displays and take a look. The items are unique, and made with that Caribbean flavour.
The locals in Dominica are guaranteed to tell you this, “If one can drive in Dominica one can drive anywhere else in the world.”

The roads may look narrow and rugged but two vehicles can get by quite comfortably. When driving please keep to the left and adhere to the traffic signs.
Dominica is blessed with the most hospitable people, so if you are in doubt, or get lost, you can always stop to ask a native for directions, and they will be more than happy to help you or even come to show you themselves.
But driving on Dominica would be missing the point. This island is meant to be explored on foot. It's crawling with natural hiking trails adorned by 1,200 species of plants and flowers, some of which recoil when touched, like sea anemones.
There are spectacular waterfalls and hot springs, including the huge Boiling Lake in the center, and the island is surrounded by waters clear enough for snorkeling, deep enough for diving and just choppy enough to make kayaking interesting. READ OUR STORIES.
Once on the island, there are a number of ways visitors can explore, from getting behind the wheel of a CAR & JEEP RENTAL, or a SCOOTER & ATV to sampling some local color on a TAXI & TOUR OPERATOR.
